Yeah, I've always thought it should have been called Passball or something. Sure it sounds weird, but thats because you haven't ever heard it before. If I suddenly came up with "Soccer" out of nowhere, it would sound really odd and you would all be like, "What does it have to do with socks?"

More seriously, I was curious where "soccer" came from and looked it up. It still didn't made much sense even after reading the explication.
